The business model of online platforms for cheap texts is no longer working. Entire order segments have recently collapsed. The reason for this is AI tools for text creation, such as ChatGPT, are rapidly expanding from the lower quality level into areas with higher requirements. Can they really save costs? Do the results meet high standards?
I have an affinity for technology. I’ve been observing developments for years, trying things out myself and have tried to make AI a partner. The idea: To outsource low-complexity texts to AI in order to achieve greater throughput. The result: I have never delivered a text created using AI tools to a customer. The texts created in this way are simply not good enough.
When I began working as a freelance copywriter, I started with the idea that I always wanted to deliver the best quality. And I am now convinced again that my expertise will still be needed in the future –– AI or not.
I have customers who have experimented with ChatGPT, as well as colleagues themselves, who now prefer to pay me again. Even if development progresses quickly, AI will never be able to achieve the subtleties that characterise texts at the highest level of quality: the appropriate style for the situation, humour, finding the most suitable quote, etc. This has a lot to do with empathy and emotions, and for the time being, these are reserved for organic beings.
Another important objection for all those who (also) run an online business: Google devalues AI-generated texts in its rankings. At the moment, it is still a little tricky to distinguish automated AI texts from human-generated texts. But the techniques are improving. I remember the early days of SEO texts when, for a short time, it was enough to put as many keywords as possible on a page to achieve a good ranking. Those days are long gone. Even though keywords are still important, search engines are now quite good at distinguishing whether a text has been written for the human reader and provides them with relevant information, or whether mindless ‘keyword stuffing’ has been carried out with the search engine in mind to artificially boost the ranking.
The cat-and-mouse game now seems to be similar with AI-generated texts. Looking ahead, I’m certain that customers are better off with genuinely good texts written by humans than with the quick cost savings that come with a high price later on.
Do you see it differently? Have you already had good experiences with AI-generated texts? Feel free to write to me –– I look forward to hearing from you!
